Capitalizing on the College's prime waterfront location, outstanding facilities, and dedicated staff we encourage the community and the entire region to take advantage of the programs offered at one of the best waterfront facilities in the country! SUNY Maritime College is an award winning US Sailing Community Sailing facility and a US Powerboating Training Center. We offer hands-on powerboat and sailing lessons, community sailing and an action packed "Boat Camp." Explore all New York Maritime’s waterfront has to offer in this jam packed two weeks of activity. Discover sailing aboard a 23' keelboat with an instructor and your friends as crew, learn how to safely operate a powerboat with hands-on training, earn your New York State Boating Safety Certificate, try SCUBA diving, paddle around in kayaks, splash in the pool, go fishing, explore the fish, crabs and other marine organisms on the shore with nets and enjoy games and initiatives that foster self-confidence, communication, and teamwork. Lunch, life jackets and all safety equipment are included. Life is to short not to get on the water!

As we often talk about water quality and CSOs here on campus, it was a treat to visit Newtown Creek Water Treatment Plant - one of the 14 water treatment plants in NYC. New facts learned during this field trip:

🚰New York City has been monitoring water quality since the New York Harbor Survey was established in 1909 - that’s a lot of data!

🚰 Food waste is added to the digester eggs as a bioslurry to co-digest with the organic material in wastewater at Newtown Creek; some of the biogas created through this process is cleaned and used to power about 6,000 homes in Brooklyn

Thanks to New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for hosting a highly informative professional development workshop!

What a day! From volunteers helping to haul moorings in the morning to a whole kayaking crew showing up for Anthony’s RA event in the afternoon, it was great to see so many people out on the water ☀️

Welcome to the newest member of the Waterfront team - Aly Medina!

Her favorite color is pink, her favorite sea creature is a Whale Shark, and she is very excited to see what other sea animals she can find. She is very excited to start this adventure here SUNY Maritime College !
