The Manhattan University community is saddened by the passing of Frank “Gags” Gagliano, a member of the Manhattan University Athletic Hall of Fame and one of the most respected coaches in track and field history.
A Bronx native, Gagliano coached at Manhattan from 1969 to 1974 alongside fellow Hall of Famer Fred Dwyer. He helped the Jaspers win Metropolitan and IC4A titles and the 1973 NCAA Indoor National Championship. His teams also set an American record in the 4 x 1 mile relay and turned in a world-record performance in the distance medley relay.
Over more than 50 years of coaching, he worked with 27 Olympians and more than 40 four-minute milers, and he shaped the sport for generations.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Roberta, his four children, his grandchildren, and everyone lucky enough to have been coached by him. Rest in peace, Gags.
