Prof. Rambe Ramel Jr., MAN, RN for earning Second Place in the Professional Category at the 20th Science, Technology, and Innovation National Pitching Competition on Sustainable Development Goals.

Held on October 23–24, 2026, at Ateneo de Davao University, the competition recognized their research pitch for advancing health innovation, policy leadership, and sustainable community solutions. With them is Assoc. Prof. Jiddo Andrei Miranda, MN, RN, the college extension coordinator and member of the organizing team as part of the WE CARE Department of MSU-IIT.

Nurses play an indispensable role in strengthening the health system, from classroom foundations and hospital wards to research labs, legal advocacy, grassroots communities, and medical practice.

This Philippine Nurses’ Week 2026, the MSU-IIT College of Health Sciences honors the power of collective action by celebrating the diverse pathways its students, alumni, and community tread to shape the health of the nation. Woven together like the intricate geometric strands of a traditional 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗶𝘁, 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨, 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨.

𝗣𝗨𝗕𝗟𝗜𝗖 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗧𝗛 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗧𝗛 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡— At Mercy Community Hospital’s Breast Cancer Awareness symposium on October 17, 2026, the focus extended far beyond clinical routines. Held under the theme “Mercy’s Golden Years: Promoting Early Detection, Every Screening and Enhancing Quality of Life* the event brought together survivors, healthcare workers, and families.

The event was officially opened by 𝗦𝗿. 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗼, 𝗥𝗦𝗠, and 𝗗𝗿. 𝗜𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗿𝗼 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀, setting a warm and welcoming tone for the day's discussions. As Mercy Community Hospital is one of the partner hospitals of the college, invited faculty from the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) College of Health Sciences grounded the program in breast cancer awareness, mental health advocacy, and community solidarity.

Delivering the talk, nurse educator and mental health advocate Asst. Prof. Maybituin, utilized the abbreviation 𝗛.𝗘.𝗔.𝗟. (𝗛onor your feelings, 𝗘ase your mental load, 𝗔nchor in everyday coping, 𝗟ean into help and connection), emphasizing that Healing Beyond the Body requires recognizing mental health as core cancer care. The holistic program featured vital insights on community support and clinical prevention. 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝘁. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗻 𝗦. 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗹, 𝗠𝗡, 𝗥𝗡, delivered a message of support from the Kadughan Cancer Support Group—a community he helped form—highlighting the importance of peer mentorship. 𝗗𝗿. 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝗰𝘂ñ𝗮, a breast cancer survivor and fellow MSU-an educator, shared her journey and advocacy with Iligan City's Sapnay Support Group. Complementing these lived experiences, oncologist 𝗗𝗿. 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗼 delivered a clinical presentation detailing how regular screening protocols and early detection transform clinical outcomes.

Student nurses have grown accustomed to the daily adrenaline of chapter exams, meticulous return demonstrations, piles of handwritten requirements, and caffeine-fueled functionality. Stress has become so normalized in our system. But perhaps, in learning how to care for others, we also need to learn when to pause and care for ourselves.

This Mental Health Day, our senior nursing students invite you to 𝗔 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸-𝗜𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹, 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 to take a step back from the usual rush. Let us listen to one another and reflect on the kind of nursing community we want to become part of.

MSU-IIT’s College of Health Sciences has secured Third Place for Best Oral Presentation at the 10th Asia Pacific Conference on ICU Early Rehabilitation in Taipei, Taiwan, with a study authored and presented by Assistant Professor Roy Daguplo Gumayao, MAN, RN.

Presented on October 3–4, 2026, at the NTUH International Convention Center, the research is titled "Beyond the Laboratory: Experiences of Nursing Students Performing Respiratory Assessments in the Intensive Care Unit."

On September 22, 2026, faculty members from the College of Health Sciences (CHS) conducted health lecture sessions across four local high schools—Bunawan NHS, Don Jose F. Yañez NHS, Kabacsanan NHS, and Digkilaan NHS—as part of the implementation of Project SLINE (Safe Life Navigation thru Health Education).

This Gender and Development (GAD)-funded initiative aims to equip young learners with essential reproductive health literacy, guide them in navigating local healthcare resources in Iligan City, and empower them to make informed personal choices.
The project is spearheaded by Assist. Prof. Nona Krislin G. Jopillo, MAN, RN, LPT, and co-chaired by Vice Dean, Assoc. Prof. Mae-lanie O. Poblete, DSCN, RN.

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) at Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) achieved a 100% passing rate for first-time examinees in the recent Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination (PNLE), after both takers successfully passed the board exam.
