This review synthesizes current knowledge on marine pollution across the Philippine archipelago, drawing together evidence on the occurrence, sources, analytical methods, and risks of both conventional and emerging pollutantsโincluding oil, heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), persistent organic pollutants, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, PFAS, and plastics, along with nutrients, pathogens, and shipping-related contaminants. It documents widespread contamination of coastal waters, sediments, and marine life, with hotspots tied to urbanized coastlines, rivers, industrial zones, shipping routes, aquaculture areas, and tourism centers. The authors highlight critical gaps in long-term monitoring, standardized methods, and human health risk assessment, and call for harmonized monitoring programs, stronger waste management and regulatory enforcement, and integrated, science-based policies for sustainable ocean governance in the Philippines.
