Ang Tinding ng UP Diliman Gender Office Ngayong Pride

Tuwing Hunyo, nababalot ang UP Diliman ng matitingkad na kulay. Ngunit sa likod ng pagdiriwang ng Pride ay ang mabigat na reyalidad: ang ating laban para sa pagkakapantay-pantay ng kasarian ay hindi kailanman maihihiwalay sa mas malawak na laban ng bayan.

Ilang dekada tayong kinumbinsi na ang bahaghari ay simbolo ng kapayapaang lumalabas lamang pagkatapos ng unos. Gusto nilang maghintay tayo hanggang tumila ang ulan, umaasa sa isang Pride na tahimik at sunud-sunuran. Ngunit nang sagutin ng estado ng dahas, panliligalig, at red-tagging ang ating panawagan, basag ang ilusyong ito.

Inakala ng estado na ang pulang paratang na ito ay magkukulong sa atin sa takot. Nagkakamali sila. Ang pulang ibinabansag nila sa atin ay ang mismong unang kulay ng ating bahaghari—ang dugong ibinuwis nina Alyssa Alano, Maureen Santuyo, Chad Booc, Kal Peralta, at iba pang martir ng pamantasan. Ito ang namumuong galit ng mga isinasantabi.

Basahin ang buong pahayag ng UP Diliman Gender Office (UPDGO) ngayong Pride Month. Igiit natin ang isang tunay na ligtas na espasyo, labanan ang pasismo, at ipaglaban ang materyal na dignidad ng lahat!

Hindi na natin hihintaying lumipas ang bagyo; tayo ang bagyo. Ang watawat ng bahaghari na ating itinataas ay hindi na lamang simbolo ng kapayapaan kundi isang bandila ng paglaban. ✊🌈

As Pride Month opens, the Collegian tackles the sectoral narratives that the state threatens to push to the margins. Our editorial charts paths for an unusually empowered Senate minority to lead sweeping transformation in a period of crisis by pursuing long-stalled corruption probes and easing costs of living for workers and peasants.

The Collegian also discusses the rare impending Super El Niño that threatens to destroy the livelihoods of farmers and fisherfolk. Meanwhile, the state continues to shortchange evacuees of the 2017 Marawi Siege with delayed compensation claims and slipshod housing. Covered in the pages too is a fire in Parola Compound, Binondo that left 2,134 families in precarity, while corporations push to cut hundreds of trees on Quirino Avenue, Manila to build the Southern Access Link Expressway.

As political crises deepen, foreign business stays on top. Filipinos continue to spend hefty out-of-pocket expenses on medication and treatment subject to price gouging by multinationals. As UP Diliman celebrates Pride Month this June, the University continues to promote safety, respect, and inclusivity as essential values in campus life, in line with the broader call of Sustainable Development Goal 5 to advance gender equality. This commitment was reflected in Start ‘Em Young 2026: Gender Sensitivity Orientation for Freshies, conducted by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA), in partnership with the UP Diliman Gender Office (DGO) and the Office of Anti-Sexual Harassment (OASH).
