Graduate students and alums turned out at Rice Stadium to cheer on the Owls as Rice opened the season with a 31-3 win.

Training complete. Now it’s time for game day.

After learning the rules and running drills with Rice Football, our international graduate students are ready to cheer on the Owls. All Rice graduate students are invited to join Dean Seiichi Matsuda and the graduate community Saturday as Rice takes on Houston Christian during Rice Rodeo Night.

Free admission for full time students with your Rice ID

The first 100 graduate students who check in with RiceGSA Vice President for Student Advocacy Anika Gupta will receive a food voucher. The first 1,000 fans will also receive a Rice-branded water bottle courtesy of Houston Methodist Hospital.

First game or 100th, come be part of the Rice community. Go Owls!

A grocery run, a downtown adventure and a taste of Houston’s international community.

For this edition of "Owl About Houston", graduate students took the METRO Red Line downtown to Phoenicia Specialty Foods—just one of the many Houston destinations accessible from Rice without a car.

The new RideMETRO Fare Card request process is now open. Rice students can ride local buses and light rail for just 60 cents per trip. Log in to ESTHER, select “METRO Fare Card Request” and choose “New or Replacement Card.” All previously issued Q Cards have been deactivated. Check your Rice email after submitting for pickup instructions.

Fulbright@Rice is officially back together for a new year.

Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies was proud to host the 2026 Fulbright@Rice Welcome Lunch, bringing together Fulbright and Opportunity Fund Scholars from around the world for food, introductions and community.

This year’s Fulbright@Rice community includes 104 members representing 36 countries — a global network of students, scholars, faculty and staff who bring knowledge, reason and compassion to Rice and beyond.

Here’s to a year of friendship, discovery and cross-cultural connection. Welcome to Rice, Fulbrighters.

A new country, a new campus and a new kind of football.

Rice Football welcomed international graduate students from around the world for a hands-on introduction to the game. Students toured the facilities, learned the rules and took the field to practice passing, catching, kicking, tackling and touchdown celebrations.

Thank you to Coach Scott Abell and the Rice Football staff for giving our students such a memorable welcome. It was a great example of the community international students find at Rice, both inside and outside the classroom.

Next stop: game day. Go Owls!
