Fertitta Family College of Medicine hosted its annual Student Research Day, highlighting medical student projects across biomedical and clinical sciences aimed at advancing scientific discovery and patient care. The Repurposing Offshore Infrastructure for Continued Energy (ROICE) program in UH Energy has been awarded approximately $750,000 by the Gulf Research Program, a part of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, to establish a workforce academy focused on preparing skilled technical workers for the growing field of offshore decommissioning in the Gulf region.

As part of NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's USIP program, a team of UH Cullen College of Engineering and UH College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics (NSM) undergraduates conducted fieldwork in Alaska to test student-built instruments that measure how upper atmospheric changes affect radio and satellite signals. The hands-on experience gave students real-world proble m-solving skills while helping refine technology for a major 2027 field campaign and a future CubeSat mission.

Gopal Pandurangan of the UH College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics (NSM), has received the 2026 Dijkstra Prize for his foundational research defining the efficiency limits of distributed networks. Building on this legacy, Pandurangan is leading a new National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project to develop more resource-efficient, secure, and quantum-resistant protocols for distributed systems.

Three graduate engineering students from the UH Cullen College of Engineering were awarded 2026–27 Texas Center for Superconductivity at UH (TcSUH) Cora Hawley Scholarships for their merit and outstanding academic progress. Asad Ali, Susancy Sherin, and Ihina Mahajan presented their research on advanced energy materials and high-temperature superconductors at the 6th Annual TcSUH Scholarship Symposium on September 18.
