The Institute on Community Integration is a federally-designated University Center for Excellence in Disabilities located at the University of Minnesota. It carries out research, training, consultation, and information sharing to ensure that all children, youth, and adults with disabilities are valued by, and have the opportunity to contribute to, their communities of choice. From its home in the University's College of Education and Human Development, it works in partnership with government agencies, non-profit organizations, community service providers, businesses, K-12 and higher education, and other professionals and organizations in a wide range of fields across the U.S. and internationally to address disability issues across the lifespan.

"Road to Belonging: Decades of Disability Advocacy and Innovation" is an 11-panel visual timeline in ICI’s lobby at the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain, 2025 East River Parkway, Minneapolis. It traces the disability movement from isolation, segregation, and institutionalization toward inclusion, self-determination, and community belonging. ICI is part of this history. Visitors are welcome to view the exhibit during regular office hours.

The Embrace Abilities project at the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) and the TIES Center at the University of Minnesota published a new free guide: Instructional Practices for Students with Extensive Support Needs in Inclusive Classrooms.

Based on a TIES Center review of 26 rigorous studies (Saunders et al, 2020), this practical guide describes eight research-backed strategies. Each one includes how to use it, what it can look like in everyday classroom routines, and links for going deeper.
