"Dr. Bakir is always so kind and nice and when she is talking to you or giving you advice you can tell that she has your best interest in mind. She has a great sense of humor and has always been an educator that I have looked up to. Talking to her and being able to hear her voice always brings such a calm and nice feeling into the daily stressors of life. She has always been there for me and I am so grateful to have had her as a professor."

Students research geothermal energy as sustainable source of energy for university operations.

A team of Illinois State students spent the spring semester researching whether geothermal energy could become part of the University’s long-term energy strategy. Facilitated by the Hagge Innovation Institute, the initiative focused on the feasibility of a ground-source geothermal system across campus, including the geological, infrastructure, operational, and financial factors involved.

Building intellectual property awareness across disciplines at Illinois State University.

Understanding how to protect original work is becoming an essential part of the student experience. At Illinois State University, a second faculty cohort expanded the integration of intellectual property (IP) into course work during the 2025-26 academic year.

The initiative was supported by the Stephen and Sharon Hagge Innovation Institute, the George R. and Martha Means Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, and the Center for Integrated Professional Development (CIPD). Its goal was to encourage students to think critically about ownership and how their ideas create value beyond the classroom.
