Last night was powerful! A collection of Black Penn undergrads reppin’ the vast Black Diaspora and sharing authentically their lived experiences navigating their Blackness at Penn. Students with varied Black cultural/ethnic backgrounds passed the talking piece highlighting the varied cultural differences between them as students, as well as the shared emotional toll that many Black students hold in common in with Black identity at Penn.
Students learned there’s a deep emotional bond in these shared experiences—even among our cultural differences and that sharing these conversations among with one another can be healing. Some of our first years shared this impactful program was the first time they’d been in community in this way and all students commented how much this conversation was needed. Trust and know, we heard you, and felt everything shared by each and every one of you last evening.
So much love to senior Olivia Kabayowho who curated this event with RP@P and salute to
co-facilitator, Yenenesh Wilson. In case you missed this first circle, no worries, there will be three more in the series to come! Please stay tuned for the next round by following Makuu Black Cultural Center and Restorative Practices at Penn. 🙅🏽♀️💐🙅🏽♀️
