BUA is honored to host the 2026 Texas River Ministries Retreat — and it's no coincidence. Our mission-minded students, staff, and faculty live out exactly what TxRM embodies: reaching across borders with the love of Christ. This year we also had the privilege of lifting up Mario Alberto Gonzalez and his wife in prayer as he steps toward retirement after years of faithful service as Director of River Ministry/Mexico Missions. Thank you to Dr. Julio Guarneri, Executive Director of Texas Baptists, and BUA President Dr. Abe Jaquez for their leadership. Proud to be part of the Texas Baptists family! 💛

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” — John 15:13

From all of us at Baptist University of the Americas, we are grateful for their courage, sacrifice, and legacy of service.

One of the most anticipated days of the year at BUA took place this week, right after our last Chapel of the Spring semester — the International Fair! 🌍🎉

We kicked off the celebration with our Flag Processional, where students proudly carried the national flags of their home countries across campus.
From there, we gathered under the tent to enjoy traditional foods from around the world and incredible performances that brought the richness of each culture to life.

This year, 25 nations were represented at BUA: Afghanistan, Bolivia, Brazil, Burma, Chile, China, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, India, Mexico, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, the Republic of Korea, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Venezuela, Vietnam, and the United States.

We love the International Fair!

What a meaningful way to close out our Spring 2026 Chapel season!

We had the privilege of hearing student testimonies of the impact BUA has had in their lives. Sharing their stories were Marix Paola Márquez Salinas, Jazmín Olivares, and Orlando Contreras — students who will be receiving their degrees at Commencement on May 16! 🎓

Marix Paola Márquez Salinas will receive her Associate of Arts in General Studies with a specialization in Business Administration and her Bachelor of Arts in Human Behavior.

Jazmín Olivares will receive her Associate of Arts in General Studies with a specialization in Business Administration.

Orlando Contreras will receive his Master of Arts in Practical Theology and Ministry.

We also celebrated the completion of the Proclama Mentorías. ¡Proclama! is an initiative by BUA, funded by Lilly Endowment, Inc.., dedicated to training Hispanic pastors in persuasive preaching. The Mentorías are one of the key components of this powerful program.

Dr. Rudy González, Director of Proclama, granted certificates to those who completed the Mentorías: Héctor Méndez, Adalí Vélez, Enrique Juárez, and Roberto Jiménez. 🎓

We are so proud of each of you and the commitment you have shown to grow in your calling.

We love celebrating our own!

Congratulations to four incredible members of our BUA staff on their academic achievements!

Ms. Yvette Arevalo, Executive Assistant to the President, earned her Bachelor of Arts in Church Leadership with a Concentration in Pastoral Leadership from Nelson University. 👏

Orlando Contreras, Facilities Coordinator, earned his Master of Arts in Practical Theology and Ministry — right here at BUA! 🙌

This week at chapel, we were blessed to hear from Sam Medina, BUA Board of Trustee. His message reminded us to pray and seek God’s purpose for our lives—to not quit, but to keep waiting faithfully until His plans are revealed. A powerful encouragement to trust the process and stay rooted in faith.

“Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.” — Psalm 96:1

On Thursday, April 23, BUA was blessed to host our Spring Music Recital — an evening where our students used their God-given talents to bring joy, beauty, and worship through music. All glory to God for the gifts He has placed in each of these young musicians:

🎸 Daniel Batchelor — Guitar
🎤 John Lian — Voice
🎤 Cat Gonzales — Voice
🎤 Gabriel de los Santos — Voice
🎺 Isaiah Sanchez — Trumpet
🎤 Zowie Ambriz — Voice

BUA was grateful to be part of Congreso 2026 this year. With over 1,000 in attendance, it was a great time connecting with students, youth leaders, and pastors. We were also able to award three scholarships—one for $1,000 and two for $500—to students taking their next step in their education.
