Congratulations to Dr. Kawai Kwok, Associate Professor, who is serving as the Principal Investigator on a new NASA-funded project aimed at helping enable long-duration space missions.

AnalySwift has received a NASA award to advance simulation technology for next-generation composite materials—work that could play an important role in the future of space exploration.

AnalySwift LLC, a Purdue University-affiliated company, has received an $899,738 award from NASA for a two-year activity to develop a robotic technology that welds and unwelds thermoplastic composites in space.

At the Composites Manufacturing & Simulation Center, innovation is part of everything we do — even when it comes to one of Purdue’s most recognizable traditions.

For more than 12 years, Professor Garam Kim, Professor Ronald Sterkenburg, and our talented Purdue students have helped design and manufacture Purdue Pete’s iconic head using aerospace-grade composite materials, the same advanced technology used in modern aircraft structures.

By applying the same research and manufacturing expertise used in our lab every day, Purdue Pete’s head has been transformed from nearly 40 pounds to less than 2 pounds — making it lighter, stronger, and uniquely Purdue.

It’s one more example of how hands-on learning and advanced composites continue to shape the future at CMSC.
