❗🌪️⛈️ Happening tomorrow! Storm-spotting science is rolling into Lafayette!

Purdue EAPS will bring the RaXPol radar truck to Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Day at Imagination Station tomorrow, May 30. Visitors can see the mobile radar used to track severe storms and tornadoes, learn about weather safety and enjoy hands-on emergency preparedness activities.

The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Imagination Station, 600 N. Fourth St., Lafayette. Weather balloon launches are planned for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Florence Stahura, a 1992 graduate of the James Tarpo Jr. and Margaret Tarpo Department of Chemistry, joins the five-person crew expected to launch in 2027 for the groundbreaking suborbital flight, dubbed Purdue 1, that will include real-time research on board.

"I feel very grateful to have the opportunity to participate as a passenger on this spaceflight expedition and even more honored to be part of such an amazing crew. To contribute to Purdue’s first research mission of this kind is truly special — and I hope it’s just the beginning of many more to come," said Stahura.
