This fascinating talk by: Professor Nissa Finney, University of St Andrews, explores how housing inequalities across the UK are shaped by race and racism, drawing on national survey and census data alongside community research. It highlights persistent disparities affecting minoritised groups and considers more inclusive, evidence-based approaches to social justice.

As scientists around the world raced to find solutions during the pandemic, a llama called Fifi from the University of Reading played an unexpected role in the fight against Covid-19.

Researchers discovered that antibodies produced by Fifi were able to neutralise the virus in laboratory tests, with Public Health England describing the findings as having significant potential for both the prevention and treatment of Covid-19.
Fifi lives with Readingโ€™s llama herd at the Universityโ€™s antibody production unit, otherwise known as a field in Berkshire.

It is one of many ways animal research at Reading has contributed to advances in human and animal health over the last century, from infectious diseases to vaccine development and biomedical science.

As part of our centenary year, our upcoming public lecture, The Past, Present and Future of Animal Research at Reading, will explore how this work continues to shape lives today.

โ€œThe Celebration of Volunteering is much more than the awards handed out this evening, but the recognition of all volunteers who selflessly devote their time to make their community a better place to live.โ€

More than 150 students, staff, alumni, supporters and local community members gathered for the University of Reading and Reading Students' Union annual Celebration of Volunteering Awards last Thursday night.

The evening recognised the incredible people giving their time to support others, from mentoring students and championing inclusion to environmental action, fundraising and community support.

Congratulations to our alumni winners:
