Last night, Criminal Justice Learning Community members in our Federal Exploration class had the opportunity to practice protection scenarios! Retired Secret Service Agent Steve Snyder guided students through real-world scenarios, challenging them to think critically and apply their knowledge to determine how they would respond in different situations. Experiences like these provide valuable hands-on learning opportunities that help prepare our students for future careers in criminal justice!

"This week’s lesson taught us to use our critical thinking skills and be prepared for every situation. By doing this, we can identify and eliminate each threat. I plan to use this in my future career as Law Enforcement!" -Dalton Rohrbaugh, Third-Year Student

Last month, students in our Advanced Interview and Observation class had the opportunity to visit Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution to participate in a re-entry simulation!

During the simulation, our students staffed different booths where incarcerated individuals had to complete “weekly” tasks within a limited amount of time. This hands-on experience allowed students to interact with incarcerated individuals while gaining a better understanding of the many challenges people face when navigating re-entry into the community.

Experiential learning opportunities like this help our Learning Community students apply their knowledge beyond the classroom and gain valuable insight into the re-entry process. We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in this simulation and for our partnerships with NorthWest Community Correction Center and Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution!
