UD alumni across nearly five decades of graduating classes came together in New York City on October 24 for a little sightseeing and Oktoberfest fun!

The afternoon began with a tour of Grand Central Terminal led by alumna Bridget Barvick Gramling, followed by an Oktoberfest gathering at Bierhaus NYC.

Though they came to UD from different places and at different times, the alumni found they had much in common. As one attendee put it, “That's why we 'fit' UD and still are glad we went there.”

A special thank-you to Bridget and everyone who helped organize the gathering, and to all the alumni who joined us! Here's to keeping the UD connection strong, no matter the distance or the decades.

Conviction and civil dialogue are not enemies.

Following her nationally recognized exchange with Texas U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico at a recent CNN town hall, University of Dallas professor Dr. Jodi Hunt reflects on the experience in a new article for America magazine.

What began as a four-minute conversation about abortion and Catholic teaching became a powerful reminder of the importance of engaging those with whom we disagree.

In her reflection, Dr. Hunt explores how we can remain faithful to our convictions while listening with humility, seeking understanding, and working toward the common good.

Her message reflects something central to a University of Dallas education: the pursuit of truth requires not only the courage to speak, but also the wisdom to listen.

The Institute for Homiletics at the University of Dallas recently celebrated its fifth anniversary with a luncheon for Dallas Catholic clergy, leaders, and donors. UD President Jonathan J. Sanford, PhD, and Chief of Staff Ryan Reedy, B.A. ’05, M.Hum. ’10, attended the luncheon, which marked five years of supporting Catholic preachers as they lead people to an encounter with God.

The message at the heart of the Institute’s work: Homilies matter. Preaching can change lives.
Dr. Karla Bellinger, the executive director of the Institute, gave an inspiring talk titled “Where Is the God of Love in the Suffering of Life?”

Two UD alumnae. One meaningful conversation about faith, career and motherhood.

On the latest episode of the Catholic Working Mom podcast, host Jessie Rettinger, BA ’11, welcomes fellow UD alumna Dr. Trish Rawicki, BA ’09, for an honest conversation about navigating the callings of motherhood and professional life.

From starting a family during medical residency to stepping away from her training and eventually returning to medicine, Trish shares how faith, discernment, and courage shaped her journey.

Their conversation explores a question familiar to many working mothers: How do we embrace the different vocations God has placed in our lives, even when the path forward isn't clear?

Congratulations to Dr. Jon Paul Heyne, BA ’10, University of Dallas associate professor of history, on receiving the prestigious 2027 Rome Prize in Medieval Studies from the American Academy in Rome!

One of only 30 fellows selected annually across various disciplines, Dr. Heyne will spend spring 2027 in Rome researching how a small Franciscan community in medieval Jerusalem influenced powerful political and religious figures.

Dr. Heyne is the second UD faculty member to receive this honor, following Dr. Elizabeth Robinson, who received the Rome Prize during her doctoral studies in 2010–12 and now teaches art and architecture on UD’s Rome campus.

“Students flock to his classes for his joyful, youthful energy, his incredibly sharp mind, and the way he brings history alive,” said Dr. Gregory Roper, dean of Constantin College.

Serving life at every stage.

From nurturing young minds to caring for the elderly, this year's University of Dallas Charity Week supports two organizations dedicated to serving others with compassion, dignity, and love.

GOLD (Gospel of Life Disciples and Dwellings) provides housing, care, and companionship to elderly and terminally ill individuals who might otherwise face the end of life alone.

St. Francis Montessori fosters a love of learning, faith, and wonder in young children through a Catholic Montessori education.

Both organizations have deep connections to UD alumni, who continue to put their education and faith into action through lives of service.
As our students come together for Charity Week 2026, their generosity will make a meaningful difference at both the beginning and end of life.

What makes Mozart’s "Requiem" one of the most compelling works in classical music?

Left unfinished at the time of Mozart’s death, the Requiem has fascinated audiences for more than two centuries, raising questions about mortality, faith, artistic genius, and the enduring power of music.

Join us on Friday, Nov. 6, from 4–5 p.m., for a University of Dallas symposium exploring this extraordinary work through music, theology, and drama.

Featuring Dr. Chris Malloy and Dr. Ivan Eidt, along with a dramatic reading from Amadeus by UD drama students, the symposium offers the UD Community a unique opportunity to discover the story and deeper meaning behind Mozart’s masterpiece.
