New copies of Core Curriculum books are being prepared for UD students through the Back to School: Love Ye Core campaign.

In spite of the vacation offered by Labor Day Weekend, students were hard at work in preparation for a performance of "Travesties" by Tom Stoppard.

The Afterhours series presented by the University of Dallas Drama Department is one of the many occasions for student engagement at UD. A cast of 8 students participated as actors in a staged reading of "Travesties," while additional students worked as set producers and stage managers.

Directed by current graduate student Joseph Sacco, BA '26, this performance was part of a drama program which facilitates student participation in production. Sacco commented on the valuable skills that participating in drama has to offer, including public speaking and cooperation.

According to Sacco, drama offers one the ability "to grow in the capacity to know other people and to know yourself."

From physics to public safety, Kathleen Griggs, BS ’86, has built a career around solving difficult problems, protecting lives and serving the country through advanced technology.

After earning her physics degree at UD, Griggs went on to create advanced technology programs at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) before becoming an entrepreneur and longtime technology executive.

In 2006, she founded Databuoy Corporation, where she developed and commercialized an acoustic gunfire localization system designed to help first responders rapidly identify the location of gunfire.

For nearly three decades, Griggs has put scientific knowledge, persistence and innovation in service of national security, public safety and a larger purpose.

That is Living the Core: using what you have learned to meet real-world challenges, serve others and make a meaningful difference.

At the University of Dallas, students are presented with an ever-increasing number of clubs and extracurricular activities, featured in the annual Club Fair!

The Club Fair occurred over two consecutive days, allowing students to explore a wide range of extracurricular activities. The 27 participating clubs ranged from the Mock Trial Club to the Dallas Refugee Project.

Clubs at UD not only foster a greater sense of community through shared interests, but they also draw students closer to the Core program. Several academic departments offer their own clubs and activities, including the Economics Club and the Philosophy Club.

These clubs remind all students of the important question: How will you leave your mark at the University of Dallas?

The Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business is now offering an opportunity in academic partnership with Christian Brothers University (CBU)!

A private Catholic university in Memphis, Tennessee, CBU has partnered with the Gupta College of Business to create a program that allows CBU undergraduates to attain an MBA or an MS at an accelerated rate at the University of Dallas. In both synchronous and asynchronous course formats, students from CBU can pursue a degree through this program to attain a more direct transition into graduate study.

Dr. J. Lee Whittington, dean of the Gupta College of Business, commented that this program's institution "reflects our shared commitment to ethical leadership, academic excellence and preparing principled professionals ready to make a positive impact in their organizations and communities."

Ten years after SB Hall first opened its doors, a new generation of students is finding community within its walls.

This fall, on just their third day at UD, Dominick Ragle and Colton Aleman crossed paths in the Veterans Lounge. Dominick, a freshman with 10 years of military service, and Colton, a first-year graduate student who served five years in the Navy, are both pursuing theology degrees while balancing life as commuters and fathers.

Their story is one small example of the community SB Hall has helped foster over the past decade.

Made possible through the generosity of Satish Gupta, MBA ’81, and Yasmin Gupta, MBA ’82, SB Hall is home to the Gupta College of Business, the Neuhoff Institute, the Institute for Homiletics and Campus Ministry—bringing together students, faculty and programs from across the University.

As SB Hall celebrates its 10th anniversary and welcomes its 10th incoming class, we celebrate not only the building, but the people and connections that continue to give it life.

"The Holy Spirit was the best admissions counselor of this place." — Dr. Roper

Recently, Dr. Gregory Roper, BA '84, was interviewed by "The Texas Catholic" regarding his assumption of the role of dean of the Constantin College of Liberal Arts.

Reflecting on his experience as a student at the University of Dallas, Dr. Roper spoke about how his time as an undergraduate positively impacted his ability to serve as chair of the English department from 2010-2019 and as dean of students from 2021-2026. In the interview, Dr. Roper discussed how he intends to lead UD through an articulation of a fully Catholic and fully intellectual education.

Illustrating the spiritual foundation of UD, Dr. Roper explained, “We always used to say that the Holy Spirit was the best admissions counselor of this place, because none of us knew we wanted to be here until we were here, and suddenly we realized this was the place.”

Forty books was also the milestone we challenged the UD community to reach through the Love Ye Core campaign. Thanks to your generosity, we did it, and surpassed it! We’ve now funded 56 new Core Curriculum books and unlocked an additional $10,000 gift for the campaign.

UD was overjoyed to celebrate the Feast Day of St. Gregory yesterday! A celebration was held fittingly in Gregory Hall, named after the saint himself.

St. Gregory the Great (d. 604 A.D.) was prefect of Rome, a Benedictine Monk and founder of six monasteries. After being elected to the Papacy, he quickly became a renowned figure in the Western world. He is now one of the four key doctors of the Catholic Church. In short, with God's grace, St. Gregory did it all.

As St. Gregory said, "The greatness of contemplation can be given to none but those who love." The University of Dallas strives to embody this same spirit of contemplation in all that we do. His feast day is a perfect reminder of what UD stands for.
