to the First-Year CBA Summit where our newest Lions came together to connect, collaborate, and get a taste of what it means to be part of . 🦁

From hearing about the journeys of recent alumni to teaming up for a creativity and innovation challenge, first-year and transfer students explored what makes the CBA experience unique. The summit wrapped up with a networking lunch, giving students the chance to build connections with fellow Lions and CBA faculty. 🤝✨

Jenna El-Khalili, assistant professor of accounting, shares a few of her favorite things, what inspired her transition from industry to academia, and her best advice for future CPAs. 📚

💒 Favorite spot on campus: The plaza outside Sacred Heart Chapel. It's such a beautiful place.

🎬 Favorite movie or book: The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab. I read this book five years ago and am still haunted by it.

🍝 Favorite restaurant in LA: Fabio's. You can't go wrong with pasta and a sunset on the boardwalk.

📈 What inspired you to pivot from public accounting into shaping the next generation of accountants? I enjoyed mentoring and training new staff, and I found that academia offered the opportunity to combine my love of teaching with intellectual curiosity. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is helping students discover that accounting is more interesting and full of more opportunities than they expected.

🦁 Best advice you received as a CPA that you now pass along to your accounting students: Organization is the key to life! Being organized, managing your time, and asking thoughtful questions will take you far. You don't need all the answers, but you should know how to find them and stay willing to learn.

🎉 Congratulations to Yasaman Ghasemi, assistant professor of information systems and business analytics, on receiving the IEOM Outstanding Woman in Academia Award at the 3rd IEOM World Congress, held Oct. 13–15 in Irvine, CA! 🏆

The award recognizes her contributions to research, education, leadership, and service in the industrial engineering and operations management community.

Let’s get to know Cody Wheeler '28, a junior screenwriting major with minors in journalism and history. 🦁 Originally from Santa Clarita, Cody spent several years living in Australia with his family before relocating back to California. 🌴

Cody is a transfer student who recently joined the CBA marketing intern team as a videographer, where he focuses on creating short-form content for CBA's social media platforms. He looks forward to bringing his own background and perspective to CBA and connecting with students of all cultures.

Cody taught himself how to edit while self-isolating in 2020 and started doing video work when he got a camera just a few years later. He has enjoyed doing travel videography, promotional fashion content, shooting short films, and is beyond excited for the opportunities in store at CBA! 🎥

Outside of LMU, Cody loves going to the beach, watching and making movies, traveling, working out, playing sports with friends, and socializing. He looks forward to working with the crew, faculty, and students!

📣 Meet Arthur Setokusumo, an MBA student with a concentration in marketing and finance from Jakarta, Indonesia! 🇮🇩 Arthur recently joined the CBA Marketing Intern team, where he's focused on creating marketing materials and social media content for graduate business programs.

This past summer, Arthur worked at Archwest Capital in Irvine as a content marketing intern, gaining hands-on experience developing content and supporting marketing initiatives in a fast-paced professional environment. 💼✨

On campus, he is actively involved in the CBA Graduate Student Association (CBAGSA), where he enjoys connecting with fellow graduate students and helping strengthen the community. 🤝

One of Arthur’s favorite aspects of is the opportunity to network with alumni and industry leaders. Through these connections, he has gained valuable insights into different career paths and industry trends. 📈

An instructor who has had a lasting impact on Arthur's MBA experience is Jim Wagner. He appreciates Wagner's willingness to support students beyond the classroom and the wealth of real-world marketing experience he brings to every discussion. 📚

Outside of school, Arthur enjoys discovering new foods and is always searching for the next great house or techno set. 🎶🍜
