Meet John Jay College’s 2026 Salutatorian, Jamella Richmond 🎓

As Student Council President and now Salutatorian, Jamella Richmond leaves behind a legacy of leadership, dedication, and academic excellence at John Jay College. She credits her success to the support of her family, friends, partner, mentors, and the opportunities she found throughout her journey at the College.

Her advice to incoming freshmen:“Get involved! College is what you make of it. You can get your degree and leave, or you can form a network, establish a strong resume, and leave with lasting impacts of your college journey.”

After graduation, Jamella plans to apply to law school as she continues pursuing her goals with confidence and purpose.

Meet John Jay College’s 2026 Valedictorian, Sophia Manning 🎓

Sophia’s journey is a reminder that resilience, growth, and determination can take you further than you ever imagined.

As she prepares to move back to Colorado after graduation, Sophia hopes to begin a career in direct service roles within the criminal justice field, helping people impacted by the justice system through reentry, restorative justice, alternative sentencing programs, and more.

Her advice to incoming freshmen:
“Take the time to build relationships and rapport with your professors and faculty in your department. The faculty here really wants to see you succeed.”
