This Give to the Max Day at the UMN College of Veterinary Medicine, please join us in building a brighter future for veterinary students with a gift to the Wacantognaka Scholarship!

CVM donor Linda Lee will match gifts to the Wacantognaka Scholarship dollar for dollar, up to $5,000. She created this scholarship to help break down financial barriers faced by Native American veterinary students at our college.

These students bring a perspective that is incredibly underrepresented in the veterinary field, and our college is committed to changing that through scholarships and admissions pathways like NatiVet.

At the College of Veterinary Medicine, we are focused on building a globally diverse and inclusive community to improve the health of animals, people, and the environment. With your support, we can transform the future of veterinary medicine together!

Third-year DVM student Andrea Pacheco's first experience with veterinary medicine was in an animal clinic in Puerto Rico, where she saw people who cared deeply about their animals face difficulties navigating care for their pets 🐾

That experience made her passionate about community medicine and led her to the College of Veterinary Medicine, where she is involved with student organizations VeTouch and SIRVS.

“One of the things community medicine has taught me is that veterinary medicine is not just about treating an animal—it is about understanding the people and communities behind that animal,” she says. “Every client comes with their own experiences, circumstances, resources, and challenges, and as veterinarians, we have an opportunity to meet people where they are and help them provide the best care possible for their pets.”

PhD candidate Hanen Baggar is creating a miniature gut to study parasitic infections 🧫

Hanen is currently in the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine’s Comparative and Molecular Biosciences Graduate Program. She's using organoids—tiny, simplified 3D lab-grown tissue that mimics the structure and function of a human organ—to better develop anti-parasitic drugs and understand how parasitic infections happen.
