Let's hit the high Cs! Join the Trinity University Handbell Ensemble for a rollicking ride through the waves at their concert "I'm On a Boat." This 18-person percussion ensemble will perform music ranging from classic to contemporary to sea shanty. There is one performance only, April 21st at 7:30 pm in Ruth Taylor Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Last week the bell room hosted 30 students as part of their Masters of Accounting capstone class. We approached handbell ringing as a collaborative and mindful pursuit.

Handbells and be as complicated an precise as a Swiss watch, but they can also be simple and accessible. Either way is beautiful. So enjoy listening to these students with no prior ringing experience, and no music-reading experience, as they interpret a Pleyel string quartet on bells and chimes.

It’s late, but before the semester is over we have to recognize the two final recipients of DOA (the Dinosaur of Achievement). Both honorees were responsible for finding things that were missing before different concerts!

Paul discovered we were missing a chime when we were already out on location, and it was early enough we could get someone to retrieve it from our bell room. Concert saved!

Marie-Bennett found missing music at our dress rehearsal. Music often goes missing (it’s the capricious nature of sheet music), but this particular music was the personal, marked music of our guest ringer, university president Dr. Beasley! We were all very relieved not to have to tell Dr. Beasley we (briefly) lost her music!
